A reader asks: We just moved to Sicily for the next three years. We are looking to travel extensively during that time all over Europe. Of course, that requires good shoes for walking all day. Are there any stylish but comfortable shoes that are not sneakers and will not kill my feet? I am prone to blisters, and my feet hate me when there is no support in my shoes.

What Are the Best Women’s Shoes for Travel in Europe?

Finding stylish walking shoes for Europe used to be an almost impossible task. However, in recent years, comfort footwear brands have stepped up their game, and they finally are creating womens travel shoes that look as good as they feel. These are the shoes I packed for my summer trip.
From comfortable flats to gladiator walking sandals, cute sneakers to waterproof ankle booties, and even dressy walking shoes such as wedges, women finally can breathe a sigh of relief at the idea of finding a balance between form, function, and fashion.
Fashionable walking shoes have arrived, and they’re getting better every day!

How Many Pairs of Shoes Should I Pack?

Most travelers agree that three is the magic number when it comes to packing shoes. We recommend you take a minimum of two pairs and a maximum of four pairs of shoes for travel.
Ensure that you bring at least one pair of comfortable walking shoes that you can use daily for sightseeing. If you’re going to experience mixed weather during your trip, pack one pair of comfortable shoes you can wear to sightsee when it’s hot and one pair you can wear when it’s cold.
Tip: Slip-on sneakers can work in both warm and moderately cold weather. Always pack waterproof boots if you’re going to expect rain or snow!

How to Survive Long Days on Your Feet?

The first time I traveled to Europe, I absolutely crushed my feet wearing impractical, cute shoes. I could hardly walk and it made me hate having to leave the hotel to go sightseeing. Not only did having bad shoes ruin my trip but it also took me a month to recover after I got home.
I can’t stress the importance of choosing comfortable shoes for traveling. You need to take good care of your feet since you’ll spend long days sightseeing. Don’t let the wrong shoes keep you from having the most amazing trip ever!
Start a daily walking routine as far in advance as you can before your trip. Exercising your feet muscles will help them feel less sore when you’re traveling. If you’re not used to spending long hours on your feet, you’re likely to feel foot pain even if you have the most comfortable shoes on the planet.
Make sure to break in all shoes before you leave! Wear them around town at least a couple times. Take them out for a hike or two, if that’s what you’re into. The last thing you want is for your comfortable shoes to give you blisters.
Some travelers swear by removable insoles such as Dr. Scholl’s Massaging Gel Insoles. They’re definitely worth a shot!

How to Soothe Sore Feet on Your Trip?

When traveling, take care of your feet; they literally take you everywhere! You must be good to those toes – you will enjoy yourself much more by not worrying about blisters and pain.
If you find yourself in pain while you’re already traveling, follow these steps:
Step 1: Lay down and raise your feet
Step 2: Stretch
Step 3: Soak your feet
Step 4: Moisturize
Step 5: Massage
It really is worth spending a little extra money to ensure the quality of your footwear when you’re trying to decide on the best shoes for travel.
If all fails, and your footwear isn’t working out, you can buy shoes anywhere in the world. Just pick up a new pair if you didn’t make the best choices – it has happened to me!
